Legal magazine Mr. interviews Bart Kasteleijn about the China Desk

"The Chinese market isn't easy." Law firms with a China desk are largely positive about this. Some call it a gap in the market. At Ploum, on the other hand, the desk is already on the decline, as working with Chinese clients was deemed "too labor-intensive and time-consuming to be profitable."

Bart Kasteleijn, a lawyer at Wintertaling's China desk, acknowledges that the Chinese market isn't easy. "It's not for everyone," he says. "Aside from the language and cultural divide, it's quite challenging financially, because Chinese clients aren't always willing to pay a hefty fee. You have to be able to handle that, often with fixed fees."
