Zuidaskantoor Wintertaling is expanding its M&A practice with Thédoor Melchers.

Law firm Winter language has appointed Thédoor Melchers as its new M&A partner. With his arrival, the Amsterdam office adds more than twenty years of (inter)national M&A experience to the team.

Melchers starts immediately and will continue his M&A practice at Wintertaling. He will also help the current Amsterdam team further realize the firm's growth ambitions.

Thédoor Melchers has been a lawyer in Amsterdam since 2002. Before joining Wintertaling, he worked for two large international firms (Allen & Overy as an associate and Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder), where he specialized in acquisitions, particularly in the unlisted sector.

Within Wintertaling, Melchers will expand the existing specializations within the M&A practice with his clients at the top end of the SME sector and contribute to the further growth of the law firm.

"The appointment of Thédoor is a crucial part of our growth strategy," says Marein Smits, CEO of Wintertaling. "Our industry faces significant challenges in the coming years. Clients expect different services, and AI will play an even more prominent role. Thédoor is an experienced lawyer with a proven track record and a clear vision for how we, as a firm, should respond to this. We are a firm focused on a personal approach, and we believe it's important that our clients can interact with us in an accessible and transparent manner. Thédoor is a perfect fit for that."

Melchers is enthusiastic about his move: “Wintertaling is a law firm that does things differently from the established order and charts a clear course with vision. That really appeals to me. The structure ensures that all permanent employees, whether lawyers or not, are co-owners. This means everyone shares in the profits. I find this important because this responsibility leads to entrepreneurship at all levels of the organization and the sustainable employability of our people. I also find it important that Wintertaling, unlike other firms, is actually willing to use modern tools like AI. For example, 'signing/closing checklists' are no longer created and updated by a highly paid lawyer, but instead AI tools like Microsoft's Copilot are used. This type of development is the future, in my opinion, and a key pillar for the future sustainability of our firm. I am eager to contribute to that.”
